Platform and Issues

Mission Statement

The Young Democrats of New Mexico's core mission is to promote youth involvement in government.

Young people deserve a seat at the table to discuss all political issues, including student debt, a living wage, healthcare, education, housing, global issues, and social justice. Additionally, YDNM is committed to facilitating youth involvement in campaigning, voting, and running for office.

Government and Electoral Reform

We believe in free and fair elections, transparency within our voting system, early voting, same-day registration, no-fault absentee voting, and vote by mail.

Natural Resources

We believe in protecting our natural resources such as water, public lands, and ecosystems to ensure the survival for generations to come.

Education

We believe that public education is the ultimate equalizer. We support appropriate funding to give students the support they need to pursue a trade school or a college education. We also support higher wages and benefits for educators.

Labor

We support a living wage for all people and support efforts to allow more access to individuals for unemployment and benefits. We oppose any effort to restrict workers' rights to organize through “right to work” legislation

Health and Societal Issues

We support women's right to body autonomy. We believe in universal access to affordable quality health care that reflects people’s preferences. We support Medicare and Medicaid and proper funding for medical corporations that provide affordable healthcare.

Economic Policy

We support the investment of local businesses and owners to assist them in competing with larger enterprises and believe people deserve a livable wage. We support narrowing the wealth gap and pay equality. We also support assistant programs such as food stamps, WIC, and TANF for individuals that require them.
